  1. I was wondering if there was a way to put a bunch of VCD files onto one a DVD media. I'm trying to do this because isn't it possible to have like 6-8 hours of video on a DVD? I can only get about 3 hrs of video on a DVD. I've tried looking through videohelp.com for guides, but with no luck.

    Hello,

Yes - any authoring program should let you do it. Programs like tmpgenc dvd author will convert the audio from 44.1 khz to 48khz for you during the authoring process.

If you run into problems with a particular program use an audio editor to resample the audio to 48khz which is the dvd spec. The dvd spec will accept the video of vcd no problem.

  3. Will this give me 6-8 hrs of video playback?

  4. Yes, I make these myself of DVD episode rips and homemade video captures off tv. For further details (including how to properly extract the vcd mpeg of the cd):

  5. yes it works okay, ive personally used tmpgenc author for this to make sum anime dvds it can fit around 15 episodes. But not all dvd player play them ok. (ps2 works ok).

Currently i have come accross a KDVD template which gives me near dvd quality (720x480) and very close to the same size as a vcd file (therefore still around 6hrs), with greater compatibility. There is also another variation which is alittle better than vcd and gives you apparently 10hours on one DVD, but havent tried it yet.

...which doesn't help if one have VCD std material already. ...and I'm still a sceptic to 6 hours full D1 on a DVD5...

  7. Hey mats, I'll post some screenshots of KDVD full D1's if you want. They're about SVCD quality, and not bad on a 27" TV.
I do agree though, it's better to just author the VCD's as is.
I have a guide for doing this in DVDLab. Link below.

  8. Thanks for the info guys. I've used tmpgenc author, but I haven't tested it on the dvd player. Hope it works. It sure took a while to convert the files tho. =D. Thanks again!

What? If you do have VCD specs mpegs, there's no conversion done, except for resampling the audio, which is a fairly speedy process (at least with processors from this century).
