I was looking for a simple editor to combine multiple short 1920 x 1080 30p (29.97) video clips and add audio tracks with reencoding the clips. I have Nero Video but its smart encoding feature always wants to re-encode 30p (it would work if it was 60i or others). Anybody have suggestions? Freeware would be preferred.

    Thanks,

    Clips? Please give more details.

You can join and add audio tracks with multiplexers like mkvtoolnix, mp4box and tsmuxer.

My appologies for not including more information. Most clips are in the format at the end of this post. I have a few clips that I was planning to convert to be the same probably using ffmpeg. Some of the video files do not have audio tracks at all so I will need have a process that takes care of that too.

For the files that were all like the below format, I did try using mp4box to merge them all. It seems like I was getting audio video synch issues though. Perhaps that was because the audio and video streams were not the same length.

If there is not a program that will handle the joining and synching then I was planning on demuxing the video clips and making the audio clips be the same length as the video streams using Audacity then muxing them back togather. I would think that if I did that it would take care of the audio video synch issue that I noticed.

I have not figured out all the different command line options that I would need get the non-matching files to be like the below format but I assume that it can be done.

It should not be that hard to do the above but it would have been much simiplier if Nero Video did not want to reencode all the clips as I do not want to lose quality if I do not need too.

Are those original sources or source that are crippled to 30p which especially for sports may be less than palatable. If they are originals I would strongly advice you to go 1080/60p and use a higher bitrate!
