I have had troubles capturing from my VCR to my comp. There are a lot of suggestions in the stickys that I will try and one of them is using the looseless huffy codec.

Now I am sort of new to all this but understand what a codec is (i think) but I dont know how to use it.

I have tried the capture setting on a few programs, adobe premier, Roxio easy media creator and virtual dub but cannot find anywhere to select the Huffy codec.

Can anyone help, with say virtual dub as that is freeware and people here I assume would be familiar with it?

I am using a honestech USB capture/tuner card and have captured from the VCR before with some lip sych prob's (its only slightly out) but I what I am trying to capture now is sporting clips and it is very 'jumpy'.

I understand USB is not great and to a laptop is probably not as good as a desktop but it seems strange that sporting clips have trouble but the normal talking clips dont. Lip sych doesnt matter right now as it is commentry over a footy game and if its out slightly you wont notice.

    My laptop is a p4 2.8ghz, 1 gig ram.

As i said I have a few things to try from the stickys but wondered if someone could explain the huffy codec thing to me.

    Thanks

All USB capture devices (that I am aware of) capture direct to MPEG as they tend to be HARDWARE MPEG Encoding Capture devices.

That is all they can do!

Perhaps if you can post here the exact make/model of your USB capture device someone can let you know more.
