  1. I just got one of these to replace an analogue capture card. I have it connected to the output from my cable box via composite video and record all programs that way, bypassing the tuner in the Hauppauge card.

It works great most of the time using WinTV2000 apart from one channel. One that channel while the picture looks fine on TV, it appears in WinTV2000 as being overexposes with whites having no detail and the picture being very contrasty. This comes through on the recorded video also.

If I change the video settings to decrease brightness and contrast I can get a reasonable if not perfect picture but the other channels are now too dark.

This is really weird since the picture is coming from the cable box into the Hauppauge and so the tuner is not being used in the card. If there were a picture quality problem I would have thought it have appeared on all channels

Any ideas on things to try?

    Thanks

  3. I tried SageTV - same problem. I also updated video drivers on the PC - again no change. I wonder if it's some strange interaction between the signal on that channel and the Hauppauge card?

The picture on the TV from the cable box is fine - it's only via the Hauppauge card that it's contrasty on only one channel. It's a strange one. Only other thing to try is the card on another PC in another house!

It's really annoying since the Hauppauge is pretty good - so much better than the other no hardware based capture cards I have used
