I can't find the answer to this in the FAQ or using the search function. I'm looking for the recommended decoder settings for Koepi's XviD v1.1.0b1 codec. I'm not looking to tweak the very last possible bit of picture quality out of a specific video file but rather the best general purpose setting that's recommended for the majority of downloadable DivX/XviD files.

I am using this XviD codec to decode all XviD & DivX videos and have been using no post processing decoder options at all up until now but recently I was reading a codec comparison that suggested the XviD authors actually recommend using the deblocking options in the decoder settings to get the best out of the codec.

I have read the XviD Options Explained PDF v1.3 document but am no wiser. I'm afraid I don't understand the implications of luminance and chroma and Y and Y+U colour spaces etc.

Can someone please explain it to me like I'm a 6 y.o.?

What from I've read, it is usually not recommended to adjust settings that you do not completely understand. The default settings should be adequate.

If you insist on messing with things, check out doom9 forums. I know the gordian knot guide briefly explains these settings, but recommends to not change them.
