Greetings:
I have been searching for a way to copy my mpeg from my DVD to my hard drive for editing purposes. It seems taht I have not been able to find a software taht can do this. This is what I have to confront with:
1). I have the new SONY VC Direct which willtake ones analoge video tape recording( I do our family home movies only) and copy it directly to DVD disk in MPEG format. I did it this way because it saves me time to convert to digital while at the same time working on my computer doing other work.
2). Now after the Tapes have been copied to DVD MPEG format, I would like to copy the video mpeg files to one of my many video editing sofwtare on my hard drive.
3). I have visited this forum in other areas and have been told to use this or that sofwtare and JUST COPY the video file to my HD. Well when I try to follow some of the many suggestions I see Files with VT-BUB, VT you get the picture I am trying to explain. SO now, which one is the Video file for me to copy. Most people ASSUME that I would know, I do not know which one out of all the files is the video files. I have Pennicle 9, Movie Maker, Movie Creator, Nero software to name but a few.
4). All I am looking for a a software taht will: a). Operate with speed and copy my DVD home movies which I have created to my HD without much interaction on my part. I saw this link in your section of the forum
https://www.videohelp.com/tools?section=16#16 and wish to know if you think taht I could find what I am looking for there.
I would appreciate it very much if you were to assist me here in finding a solution to my problem. I really need some one to help me and please if you do have a solution, please do not ASSUME that I know. Please take me step by step through a process as if you were teaching a class to some one step by step. If you say look for the Video file and you know taht when I click a flder I shall see various VT. VT-BUB files, please indicate which ones you are refrring to. If I have to click each one until I find the correct one, then please tell me to do so. In this way there is less frustration.
I hope some one will assist me here.
Thanks to all.

The files you want are the .vob files. Try to figure out how to set things so that you can see the size of the files. The smaller .vob files are menus and the huge ones are the movie.
Video Redo can read these .vob files and turn them back into .mpg files. My understanding is that the .vob files are .mpg files but with some extra information that has to be stripped out. Another way of saying it is that the .vob files are a container that contains the .mpg files.
When you use the free Trial of VideoRedo and are navigating to the video-ts folder on the DVD you have to change the file type to "all" or '.vob" in order to see the .vobs. Just try it and when you get to the point where you see no files in the video_ts folder just look on the window for a drop down box where you can change the file type.
Also don't try to edit the video at that point. Just use the add button to turn the entire bar green and save the whole thing. When it is on your hard drive, find it and edit it. -
you can rip with DVD Decrypter and use it's Demux option in File mode
then use one of Pegasys's many fine TMPGEnc programs to do your editing"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
