  1. I've been following SatStorm's guide on how to convert to ntsc to pal

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=209166&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

But when I get to step 12 TMPG won't recognize the dummy vbr file I created in VirtualDub...."File Not recognized" it says.

    Thanks

Go into Virtualdub folder. There you should see a folder called 'aviproxy'.
click on proxy-on.reg. Quoting from the readme, this is what it does >

".... The AVIFile handler included with VirtualDub 1.3b is capable
of running in Proxy mode -- that is, you can install it as the
*default* handler for AVI files, and it will work with signposts
that are renamed to the AVI extension. This means that
applications which previously failed with the AVIFile handler
because of the .VDR extension can now be used, provided that
the .VDR files are renamed to the .AVI extension...."

Now rename your extensions from .vdr to .avi
This should now load ok into TMPGenc.

I took it for granted (should never do this!) that you have installed frame client support >

click on auxsetup.exe > install handler.

    You have done this right?

Frameserving through virtualdub in achieved by >

load avi > start frame server > click start > save <filename> .vdr or .avi
    then load this into TMPGenc.

Just in case you were doing it wrong.

Thanks for all your detailed replies.

I just simply followed the guide and loaded the AVI file into VirtualDun and then selected 'Start Frame Server' and saved it as a vdr file and tried to open that file from TMPGenc.

I hadn't installed client support and i'll also check the 'aviproxy' tonight (i'm at work at the moment).

    Many Thanks

You might also want to have a read of the Virtualdub frameserver documentation at http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_frameserver

  8. Quite right, that's a typo. I did save it as a VDR.

  10. Get avisynth.
Make a one line .avs file in notepad.
    Put this in it: AviSource("e:\path\test.vdr")
Start the frameserver in vdub, name the output, "test.vdr" and then load the .avs into tmpgenc.
Change the drive letter and path to suit your own.

  11. If you guys are still having problems look here; https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems. Also keep in mind that TMPG doesn't like files with long names or files that are buried in a mountain of folders. Keep it simple (i.e. C:/videos/my.avi).

What variant and version of virtualdub are you using ? There seems to be an issue with frameserving in the 1.4.10 release
