  1. I was wondering if it is possible to use the digital out on my DVD player/HDTV to connect to a soundcard in my PC to get sound out of my 5.1 computer theater system? I have Logitech Z540 speakers (I think, or they might be Z640).

I am thinking about the 5500s, does anyone have any experience/input on using a PC-based theater system for home theater sound?

    Thanks alot

I know it can be done with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum soundcard (which is what I have). All the "ports" on the card itelf are outputs (analog and digital). To send a digital signal to the soundcard you need to have the Platinum version of the card which has the front panel with all the inputs (which includes an optical input). Now, there is also a digital CD audio input on the card itself but you would have to run the wires into the case since they are located on the top of the card.

  4. Thanks for the feedback, shimonmor. I guess I'll have to think about either going the soundcard route or buying a dedicated home theater system (the latter would probably be more functional in the long run).

No problem. This stuff is all pretty new to me. I've had the SoundBlaster card for a while but never really used it until I got the Logitech Z-5500 speakers a couple of weeks ago. And I've been blown away by them and am starting a DVD-Audio collection. DVD movies have also taken a turn for the better as far as audio is concerned with DD and DTS.

A great resource (in case you don't know) for audio questions is the AVS Forum. I've learned a lot just from reading through the postings.
