Okay - I am the definition of newbie and could really use some help. I just bought a dvd burner and have no idea how to use it. Can someone please tell me in plain english how I can convert mpg, avi and wmv files into a format that can be burned to a dvd? Also information on required, and hopefully free, saftware that would be required to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

You will have to read the 'Guides' to the left <<<< to start with. They are there expressly for the purpose to answer basic questions such as yours.
It also helps to fill out your computer profile so that we know what system you are using.
EDIT: OK, I have some spare time so I'll give this a shot, though the above still applies.
First, see what the DVD structure is. 'What is DVD' to the left. <<<
You will need a MPEG-2 encoder and a DVD authoring program. There are free versions under 'Tools' <<<. Though you would be much better off paying for programs like TMPGEnc encoder and TMPGEnc DVD Author. TDA can also burn DVDs.
To convert files, look to 'Convert' <<<.
You also need to use compatible DVD media. You can look up your burner under 'DVD Writers' <<< to see what media is recommended. Also check your player to see if it can play that brand.
When you get through all of that, then ask your questions.
