RJ-800DVX compatibility

I just ordered RJ-800DVX. What other Mediatek based player is it compatible with?

IE, what firmware that brings long file name support I can use?

Yeah, I wish the file name supported was longer. But at least it does not turn the file name into some funny numbers like some older players.

You should go with a Lite-on player for longer file name support.
The Lite-on 2001 supports 36 characters if I remember correctly.

I have LiteOn-2001, it is in the living room, I am getting RJ-800DVX for my bedroom
Anyway, since I like experimenting and getting the most out of the players I have, I wonder if I can use any modifications for other MTK players to apply on RJ. It seems that folks out there do better jobs that the manufacturers who supposedly promise new fixes and features but never deliver.
But I'd like to make sure I am not going to ruin my toy, that's why I need to know exactly which ones would be compatible.
My main object of the interest, as I said, is the long file name support.
Packet bitstream is optional but nice, too.
Has any one tested it?

I got this player so I can provide you w/ a bunch of information on it.

RJ800DVX is a Mediatek based DVD/Divx player and it can playback DivX and XviD files. The picture quality is great, much better than Philips DVP players.

QPel and GMC[?] features are supported.

Well, and now here goes my experience:

All native DivX videos are played back properly. There's no problem.

This DVX player can also play all XViDs but can't play properly those with 'packet bitstream'. If packet bitstream is used, the playback is choppy. In order to play such xvids smoothly, you have to remove packet bitstream from videos using MPEG4 modifier [www.moitah.net].

And the second problem: Although manufacturer proclaims its product is able to play GMC and QPel xvids, in fact it can play only QPel properly. When GMC is used, the motion of the movie is jerky and choppy [although the packet bitstream has been removed prior to playback].

There's a new firmware for this player at rjtech.net but it obviously doesn't solve these mentioned problems.

Luckily, GMC is not being used so often in xvids [i mean internet releases] and if so, you can still recompress and remove GMC from such videos according to this tutorial:

Both mentioned problems [packet bitstream, GMC chopping] should be easily fixed by a new firmware but there's still one which doesn't solve it at all at their site [rjtech.net].

Thanks for that information. However, I am looking for a firmware mod that supports long file names. Do you have it?
