I've been trying to encode AVI files to MPEG2 using TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress Batch Encode GUI. The problem I get repeatedly is that some of the clips convert to MPG files wonderfully, whereas others have sound but no video! If you're watching the batch running you can tell immediately there is going to be a problem because the little preview area remains black. Sort of defeats the point of a batch encoder though.

It's not the clips - at least on the face of things - because if I take exactly the same project as I used to load the process on to the batch queue, and just run it from within TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress, there are never any problems at all. It only occurs when you batch the job. It does not affect every clip, but when a clip IS affected, it happens every time you add it to the batch queue....

Converting from AVI (as captured by WinDV) to DVD PAL, MPEG-2 Video, 720x576, VBR (Ave 8000 kbps - though that varies for reasons I'm not sure about). Audio is Linear PCM, 48k stereo 1536 kbps.

Any thoughts welcomed. Meantime I'm running batches overnight then going back and running the failures interactively as described.

    Cheers

Sorry! I don't have the answer to your question. But I thought perhaps you would like to hear that I have exactly the same problem when trying to use the batch tool encoding wmv-files to mpg. The program itself works fine, but the batch tool failes.

I can see that you have got no answers, but did you get any help elsewhere??
