Can someone please give me a how to batch encode? I have a list of files and I do them one at time. I'm guessing that batch encode means I can do them all at once. When I add a file I get a message that the image is invalid. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Look here for a tmpgenc plus batch guide

It might help us help you if you would download a program called gspot and load your file into it. Then take a screenshot of the output and post it here.Originally Posted by BonnieW88

Thanks for the guide. I didn't realize I had to add each file separately....thought I could keep adding from the add window. I just did a trial run and it worked, except that I couldn't reencode avi to mpg...just avi to avi and mpg to mpg. Am I missing something or is that how it goes? Thanks again.

I don't know what you are doing wrong. As far as I know tmpgenc only encodes to mpg so I don't know what you're doing. You may be missing a codec or something or you are making a setting wrong in tmpgenc.

Just to make sure you are setting up your tmpgenc correctly have a look at jimmalenko's tmpgenc guide
 http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm

If you can't get tmpgenc working the way you want it you might try HCbatchGUI. It's free, fairly straight forward, and uses HCenc for the encoder so it offers very good video quality. When finished you will have elementary video and audio streams ready for authoring to dvd.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again")

wow....that's an amazing guide. I only use the wizard....three clicks and I'm done and I've had pretty good results. I also frameserve with virtual dub and never need to tweak anything. The guide is very intimidating....looks like rocket plans. I don't know if I'm up to it.

I have a season of downloaded avi files that I converted with IMToo which is great because it does the whole season in one batch, but I only get 4 episodes on a disk. I would like to use TMPGEnc because using the video cd settings, I can get twice as many on a disk and the quality isn't bad at all.

I'll play around with batch encode tonight and see if I can get it working...worst case scenario, I'll continue to encode one file at a time.

 Thanks for your help.

I use use batch mode with TMPGEnc Plus all the time, using the wizard interface. I use AviSynth to frameserve into TMPGEnc. You have to go through the wizard for each video you want to encode, and in the last window select the "Create another project..." as seen in step 5 here:
 https://www.videohelp.com/oldguides/tmpgenc

You'll build up the batch list for all your videos, then just click "Run" from the batch window.

I'm not sure about your initial "image is invaild" error/question, as freebird73717 mentioned a screenshot of gspot for the file that generated the error would help.

 Hope that helps,
 Jim

	Hello Jim....

I never focused on the 'create another project' box........I always start encoding immediately. Of course, it makes sense to me now. I have a batch of 7 reencoding now...I'm loving this. My problem with the invalid image was probably because I was trying to load a file in the batch window before creating a list and it was asking for the extension for the saved list. Thanks for your helpful comments. Between you and freebird, I've learned a lot today. Thanks.
