  1. Ok, I can successfully rip chapters using SmartRipper
2.40 ( resulting files are perfectly playable by
my Creative Labs DVD player software)

However, when I try to convert them to AVI, it doesn't
work. This is what happens (I use DVD2AVI v 1.76):

I start DVD2AVI, open the VOB file. This works ok.
I can navigate through it with the slider at the bottom
of the window, it displays frames from it perfectly.

If I go to "Options/Preview", it plays it back (no sound)

When I try to do "Save AVI" it prompts for the file name
and after this pops up selector for the video
compression with "No recopmression" selected. I hit OK.

Windows makes "DING", the Remain field in the status says
Finish, the .AVI file with 0 lenght is created.

DVD2AVI also crashes quite often (unhandled exceptions)
    under the different circumstances.

Maybe I have to register DVD2AVI.vfp as DLL in windows
somehow? Guide didn't say anything about it.

What can I use instead of DVD2AVI?

  2. It is really not clear what you are trying to do here. Are you wanting to make a VCD and SVCD or a Divx file at the end of all this? Because my guess is the error you are getting is a result of the Windows 4 gig file limit (which is why the DVD rippers rip into sections in the first place) Tell us what you want to do and we can help.

  3. I am trying to do SVCD. Operating system is W2K.
Also tried it on W98 - same results. .VOB size
is 521 MB. I would like to point that there is NO
activity whatsoever from the application after I hit
    OK button

In fact, the DVD2Avi website discourages people from using the AVI functions of DVD2Avi. It should just be disabled.

  6. Yes, you are going to want to save the project and then close DVD2AVI. THen open TMPGenc, load up the SVCD template select your project files as video and audio source, and, after tweaking your settings. Go. Good luck. If you have questions consult the guides to the left....they'll take you through step by step.
