is there a freeware dvd audio ripper program out there i want to rip the audio off a dvd and put it into MP3

MPlayer is free. I'm sure there are others, but that's what I use. Most DVD rippers aren't geared to ripping just the audio track, but it's easy with MPlayer:

mplayer -dumpaudio -dumpfile sound.ac3 dvd://1

for example. Or, alternately:

mplayer -vo null -vc dummy -ao pcm -aofile sound.wav dvd://1

Either way, of course, you'll still have to reencode it. But you could go with MEncoder and perhaps do it in a single step.
