  1. hello all,

wondering if anyone could help. im using DVD shrink to backup my home DVDs, the media im using is Verbatim (Advanced AZO Dye) printable.

the problem which i am having is when i playback the copied DVD there are horizontal lines appearing on the picture.like you get when your watching TV via an antenna. it just happens for about 2 secoonds then goes away.

ive compressed movies at the 50%mark and never seen these lines occuring, i dont know why on a movie compressed only a little?

i dont know why this is happening, can anyone help?

Why use Shrink? If you are backing up movies that are already on DVDr (home DVD's) then just do a one to one copy.

    Hello,

You could use deep analysis. That will try to improve the quality.

Also, you could split them across two discs. That will preserve the original quality. Of course you'll have to change discs (unless you've got a dvd disc changer ).

    Hello,

Try splitting to two discs and see if it still happens.

When DVD Shrink fails, I use DVD-Rebuilder with QuEnc

Ditto, but I use cce basic. Lordsmurf, is QuEnc as good or better than cce basic? I hope I'm not starting another encoder war.

CCE is much better than QuEnc. But QuEnc is free and CCE will cost you.

Thanks! I already have cce basic and love it, but was hoping I didn't waste my money.

  11. Hi all.

underworldmagic, I'm affraid I do not know what is causing this problem, but I can assure you it's not DVD Shrink.
When compression artifacts show, there are not lines, whether horizontal or vertical.

Do these lines appear when watching the files generated by DVD Shrink, from your hard-drive, or only when burned to disc?

Why is CCE "much better" than Quenc? (Sorry, just curious!)...

CCE is faster and produces a higher quality output than Qenc. The question you have to ask yourself is "is the quality difference worth handing over cold hard cash for ?"

I believe it is - others may not agree, or cannot afford to.

  14. I am getting this too. its nothing to do with shink (I did not shrink I ripped and converted to mpeg1 with tmpgenc)

they look like INTERLACING lines ???

here is a really short clip so you can see

    http://www.nerys.com/stuff/lines.mpg

its 19seconds from a day without a mexican backup. its 3.25MB

I would really like to find a way to get rid of this problem its really annoying.
