Using Virtualdub with dvsd

Hi!
I am finally getting some good preliminary results with my venture into MM - it is getting exciting! I have one problem - of course I am trying to use Virtualdub with the files I have downloaded from my sony dvcam. It always says that it can't open the files because a dvsd codec is not loaded. I have googled and looked on this site for a dvsd codec and cannot find one. I am wondering. Is a dvsd codec a kind of codec? How can I fix this problem?
