    Hi,
I am setting up a computer to receive DV from a cam, edit, encode and then burn VCD's. I installed winDV today and it gave me the message "can't detect a device attached to the computer" or something like that. I checked to make sure that the computer was seeing the 1394 card installed inside and there seems to be no problem there. I snugged the cable. Unplugged the camera and restarted the computer - although I thought firewire was hot swappable. I don't know where to go from here. Is there some setting I have to change in the cam itself to use dV instead of USB?

  2. You could try another software for capture just to check that it works.

You can use Scenalyzer Live for free but it puts a logo in the footage until you register it.

    You are on XP right?
WinDV and everthing else, communicates through DirectShow. Is your DirectX up to date (ver9c)? The camcorder should show in the Scanner and camera wizzard. If not there the problem is the driver or cable.
