Just went to CompUsa at lunch and picked up 2 -50pk of DVD-R, made in Japan. They had alot of made in Japan media, this is suppose to be a 5 day only sale. I don't have the media code, I am at work, thought i would give a heads up. Container looks like the larger TY container.

I'm sorry I didn'y even look at the DVD+R's. The -R's caught my attention because there were a couple of dozen (at least) and half had to be made in Japan. So, I was surprised!

  3. I just came back from Best Buy empty handed. They had Sony 50pks on sale for $22.99, all MIT. Oh well, not as good of a deal anyway. I'll have to hunt down a CompUSA, not too many around here.

MIJ is not a code. It simply means that the discs were Made in Japan. If you got TYG02, which is what you were implying, then you also got MIJ - Taiyo Yuden. TTG02 however is MIT (Made in Taiwan).

Thanks for the clarification. At least I won't make a fool out of myself about that again. Is there a big difference between the TY and TT, that is, the ones made in Japan and Taiwan?

I went down to the local COMPUSA here in Honolulu and all the freeking spindles of DVD-R/+R were all MADE IN TAIWAN. So I didn't buy any but I'm glad I bought 2 spindles of the MAXELL DVD+R that was on sale the other week at OFFICE DEPOT, 100 discs for $41.00.

either tyg02 or ttg02 media code should be perfect quality..

Most people prefer the TY as it is made by Taiyo Yuden, but I personally have never had a single problem with TT. If you want to burn faster than 8x, then definately go with TY. I have however purchased TDK w/ media code CMC which were iffy at best, but those were "+". To sum up, it's a pretty good bet that you are getting good quality media when you purchase TDK DVD "-" R. You take your chances when getting TDK DVD "+" R. Just my 2 cents worth from my own experience.

Sidebar: Visually inspect every disc of any brand before burning. Most every coaster I have made had a defect that was visible upon close inspection. Like a spec of something here or there that could not be easily blown off. Like something that looks like a crinkle in the top surface (branding error?). Like the dye not looking evenly spread. I had a couple in a batch where the inner ring in the dye, hard to describe, flip a disc over and look, but it was wavey. It recorded fine (no errors) but my players refused to read it. Again, just my 2 cents worth from my own experience.

CompUSA in Fresno, Calif ... The -R are there ... Made in Japan ... but the +R are made in Taiwan.

    Yesterday ... I bought 4 ... 50 packs. Today ... I bought another ... 4 ... 50 packs. I didn't get any +R ... at all. Just the -Rs

  15. The CompUSA in Brighton MA today had both TY and TT DVD-R disks labeled as TDK 8x. Same SKU, same label, but the cases were different: the TT in tall cake boxes with about 3/4 inch of space above the stack of disks; the TY in shorter cylinders with rounded-off "corners" on the top.

Although labeled as 8x, the TT disks show as 4x maximum in DVDinfo and Nero. The TY disks burn fine at 8X with Nero.

  16. I bought these a few weeks ago and they burn great in my Nec-3500 and play without a problem on my sony dvd-315 player. They burn at 12x on my burner. Info -tool cofirms them as TYG02. A great bargain IMO.

I noticed that Rima is now selling TYG03 16x disc for just $28 for 50. anyone have any experience with these?

TTG02 and TTG01 are both good media. I've used alot of these and have never had a problem. For me these have both been made in Taiwan. I believe the TTG01 are 4x media and the TTG02 are 8x media.

Lately I've had freezing problems with the TTG02. I bought this spindle a few months ago from COMPUSA. I figured it's the media which is why I didn't purchase any from last weeks COMPUSA sale. I backed up the same movie with the TTG02 and got freezing in the middle of the movie. I used a MAXELL 8X disc for the same movie and had no playback problems. The discs were burned in my PIONEER 107 drive.
