  1. Looks like they are clearing out older 4X but these burn perfectly on my 3500 at 8X.

Supermedia has them delivered with this coupon d10doff Thanks to henry_nettles for the coupon code.

  3. Another good deal right now, Office Max has 50 packs of 4x 'Value Disc' for $10 after a $6 rebate. I bought a couple of spindles, and they were TTG01, TDK media. Good quality discs for $20 per 100, half the price of even these. :P

  4. They just dropped the price, $38 delivered.

    Thank you for the info.
Quick question: meritline's site says that there is "No Stacking Ring".
Does that mean that there isn't a spindle ? If that's the case, is there a potential for the discs to move around enough in the packaging (during transit) to become scratched/damaged ?

  8. I have purchase discs before with no spindle. They shrink wrap them so tightly that nothing will move around. If TY had anything to do with the wrap I would trust them. I will get mine by Wednesday. I'll confirm media code and condition.

    Yep. Japan-made 8)

The TYG02 (8X) are often cheaper than the TYG01 (4X). And they are outstanding media

  14. They are down to 32 cents apiece with free shipping if you buy 600 of them. I'm thinking about it, but they will probably come down again as soon as I buy them.

  15. Thankfully, these will be the last I buy for some time. Based on current and future use, I have enough for 4 years worth.

That is usually the disc hub, not the spindle.

The stacking ring refers to the small ridge around the inner plastic center ring on the disc. Its purpose is to keep the discs slightly separated when stacked on a spindle. If you look at a standard disc, you will see the stacking ring. When a disc is to be hub printable, there is no stacking ring so that the printable surface can be applied all the way to the center hub. Also, for discs that are to be thermal printed, there is an advantage to not having a stacking ring. The stacking ring sticks up and interferes with the thremal printer head. A thermal printer cannot print any closer than 1/4" or so from the stacking ring. When there is no stacking ring there is no restriction on the thermal printing area.

There'll likely be visible differences in the spindles to differentiate between the two, plus you can see the top disc of the spindle. I'm sure there's visible differences between the discs as well, if you looked close enough. Of course this would mean you'd have to know which was which...
The discs I bought were packaged as 'Value Disc', not 'Khypermedia', but they are one and the same, and I've heard of both CMC and TDK media in the Value Disc as well as Khypermedia (I've gotten TDK media in Khypermedia as well before). I don't care either way, the CMC discs burn better at the edge than these TDKs.

Steve...I got some TDK's that also have CMC's with the same packaging (CMC's are +R, and TDK's -R).

I agree - The TDK's are slightly iffy around the edge it seems. No freezing...and my liteon reads them fine, but my NEC 3500 definately slows down when reading the outer edge, as does a 2500.

Is "Silver Thermal Lacquer" the same thing as "Silver Shiny"? I've always been a "Silver Matte" man myself. The shiny discs seem to get covered in fingerprints when you just point at them. Is Thermal the same thing as Matte?... like dull and not as reflective?... you know what I mean.

I have some Silver Thermal lacquer TY 8x +Rs. I'm afraid they're the dust magnets.
    Quote Quote
  22. OK, now I'm concerned that the 200 'silver matte' TYs that I ordered from Supermediastore are going to be shiny, instead. Has TY ever made real silver matte 4x?
    Quote Quote
  23. Has anyone done any scans of these discs? I ordered 600 of them yesterday, I hope they are as good as the Prodisc S03s I can't get anymore.
    Quote Quote
  24. I just got mine and they look exactly like TY. The code matches at G01 and they burn at 2X-8X on my stock 3500 firmware. BTW they are NOT silver matte, they are shiny but no where near as bad as the mirror image on some. Rima had 2 different versions of S03, the 1632 and the 1631. These have the spiral shine of the 1631. Not too bad and not too easy to fingerprint. It's interesting, based solely on the scans, the Prodisc S03 wins. ''

  25. Those S03s were excellent discs, too bad they quit making them. I'm not obsessed with speed like most people here seem to be, I'm more into quality. Those burned perfect every time. Even when burned as close to the outside edge as possible, I still never had any problems with them.

I've had pretty good luck with the Prodisc MCC -Rs.

I did pick up a couple 50 packs of the Fujifilm 8X +Rs from Best Buy last night for $19 each. Package says they're made in Japan, and the media ID came up as YUDEN000T02. Sweet. They also had -Rs.

  27. Here is a scan of an 8X burn on my NEC 3500. It looks as though they burn better at 8X.

I actually read in the media section comments for the Fuji 8X T02 +R someone saying that they burn better at 8X than 4X. I don't know if I buy that, though.

They're optimized for 8x, so it's entirely possible burning at 4x won't give any advantage. I've noticed with my Px-712A burning T02 at 12x gives better results than at 8x.

  30. These are now $33.30 delivered, from Shop4Tech. I've had no problems with Shop4Tech, but if you don't want to order from them I don't care, just posting the price. You've got to use one of their many 10% codes that they usually have floating around, I believe one is 'TCB10'.
