I have a TI-89 calculator with a cracked LCD screen. TI support claims that it will be $81.00 for a new calculator. I also happen to have a functional TI-82 calculator. Is there a way the TI-82 LCD can be used in the TI-89?

If the screen is exact the same, maybe, but it could be hard getting it out without damaging. i don't think it would work, but I've never opened my calculator. I also never use a TI-82, so I don't know how it is.

If your LCDs are exactly the same it should work. If I remember TI calculators are relatively easy to take apart. Usually the LCD is not attached to the board, but simply pressed (lying) on top of the board so that it maintains contact.

I don't think the LCD's are the same. The 89 is higher rez.
Plus the 89 will graph 3D functions and the 82 won't, I don't know how much of a function of the LCD that is.
I'd just call TI and ask.
