  1. I'm new to making VCD's. I'm currently setting up a XP system and want to know what burning software is the best. I'm going to convert my home DV movies to VCD. Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

  2. AS ITS Xp YOU ARE STARTING OFF WITH, I WOULD SUGGEST NERO. BUT MAKE SURE ITS THE VERSION FOR XP. WINONCD IS PROBABLY BEST FOR SLIDESHOWS, PHOTO ALBUMS ETC. AS FOR ADAPTEC I HAVE FOUND IT VERY UNPREDICTABLE ALTHOUGH ITS VERY GOOD FOR MAKING MUSIC CD'S.

    HOPE THIS HELPS.

  5. I get the feeling that Nero might be the easier way to go (easier for a newbie). Anybody else have an opinion?
    Thanks everybody!

  6. By the way, Roxio and Adaptec are the same now
And Nero is the best for a Beginner, but for one who wants more well, TSCV would be the best.

  7. TSCV would be a good choice.

Roxio (adpatec) has 2 VCD capable products out right now. EZCD Creator Deluxe 5.x and VideoPack5.
EZCD Creator Deluxe 5.x does not burn compliant VCDs. VCDs produced with it will not play correctly in many DVD players because of a bug in the way it generates the PBC code.
VideoPack5 does not work correctly under XP. Usually it will cause a BSOD when you try to burn a disc. A patch is rumored to be coming by the end of the year, but who knows.

That leaves only Nero from your original list, but TSCV or any VCDImager based app would be a better choice.

  8. I'm a long-time Nero user. I got it when I bought my first CD burner because EZ CD Creator caused incompatibility problems with other software I had installed. It's not unusual for that to happen, even to this day. I have ten or so different burning programs installed now, and they all play nice with each other, but if I were to try to install Easy CD, everything would fall apart.

I just recently started using VCDEasy/CDRDAO and it's wonderful. It's free, and although it might take a little longer to learn to use than Nero, it's worth the time if you want to make nice VCDs with chapters.

I think VCDComposer is the best. You can do everything.

  11. I think if the guys at Ahead are listening, they should hire the guys from TSCV and VCDEasy, and add those features to Nero

Yes I agree with you Sefy. That would be the best VCD burning software ever!

  13. Yup, Nero's easy to use Interface and Control, and TSCV and VCDEasy features! man that would really be nice!

  14. Thanks for the replies everybody! Does TSCV and VCDEasy both work okay with XP? If so, I'll give them a try. It can't hurt since they're free. Do they run okay in XP?

  15. My vote goes to VCDEasy, and yes it runs fine on WinXP.

  16. I'll say,
Nero if you don't want any features and don't want to get too much trouble.
VCDImager (TSCV is only GUI). if you want more features especially menu.

Also remember that VCDEasy doesn't HAVE to do the complicated stuff, you can make a vcd with 3 button clicks (add mpeg>(browse to mpeg)>OK>Go!). It just lets you have the power to do the extra stuff.. so it actually could be easier than NERO (and yes I do use both )

  18. VCDEasy is easier for Chapters, but if you also want menus and more control, then TSCV is the way to go, that program has more features then VideoPack 5 (I know, cause I have it!).

  19. I don't know because never have a hand on VCDEasy before. Can VCDeasy makes a menu like a simple menu in Nero? I think Nero is good for multiple tracks and simple menu such as music videos, karaoke and etc., and of course for all beginners.

  20. if you don't care to make menus and chapters (which I don't) go with Nero .. plus the latest updates to Nero fix the scandat problem so you can ffwd and rewind with SVCD

I use it because it's quick and easy

  21. I should also add - that you can make simple menu's with Nero - very 'point and click' easy ... I didn't state the correctly in my first post -- I don't make menu's but Nero 'can' if you want it to

  22. ya_jai, VCDEasy does not "yet" create a menu, so far the best would be TSCV, try following the Chapters and Menus sections in my All-In-One guide.
For Karaoka and Track by Track you would be better of with Nero cause it would be simpler and easier to do.

  24. Easy CD Creator (Adaptec/Roxio) menus work well -- if you get it working. Easy CD Creator (IMHO) is too unreliable to be a good proggy.

Nero is great for a simple, NO MENU VCD. Although you can make simple menus with Nero, the way the PBC is authored is incorrect. Nero menus don't work on most software DVD players and even some hardware players. IMHO, Nero should never be used to create menus.

If all you are interested in then, is a simple multitrack, no menu VCD, something like the old VCDImagerGUI (+ VCDImager 0.6.2) + CDRWin is more than sufficient and just as easy (load mpeg, save BIN/CUE).

For control of all the features possible for VCD, I strongly suggest using VCDImager 0.7.x with or without one of the GUIs. VCD Toolkit is another good option.

    My comments:
(1)nero: a buggy software. Do you like a software creating
    an incorrect (s)vcd?
(2)VCDEasy: greatest for chapters without menu.
(3)TSCV: almost can do anything, but need to be more
    patient when using it.
(4)VedioPack5: if do not care money, it's the choice.
menu creation is great. The chapter performance looks
like a multiple MPG-files vcd, but actually it is one
MPG file and the play is seamless. Can TSCV do this?

This isn't a VCD specific function and if you have a video editing proggy like Premiere, you can definitely include such a menu with VCDImager as well. However, it is definitely a very cool function added to Videopack5.

  27. vitualis, just to comment regarding Nero's incorrect Menu, i've tested it to work on: PowerDVD, WinDVD and my Pioneer DV525 and it worked very smoothly on all of them.

tendtend, VideoPack 5 is extremly disappointing, it has less features then TSCV, and not to mention it's giagantic in size.
