Can Nero Recode also reauthor discs without their menus like DVD Shrink? Can Recode also reauthor without compression if you ask it to? What are the differences between Nero Burning Rom, Nero Express, and Nero SmartStart (or is it Nero StartSmart?)? Thanks

    YES
    YES
Nero Express is a stripped down version of Nero BurningRom
Nero StartSmart is a launcher program for Nero 7 suite. When you go through StartSmart, you choose what task you want to perform and the program launches the appropriate application from the suite.

Comparing Nero Recode to Roxio Copy & Convert, does one have more or less features than the other? Does one of them perform better or worse than the other? Or are they just two user interfaces that produce the same results? As I posted before, I plan on getting two new DVD DL drives designed by Lite-On (LH-20A1P). Will the Nero software bundle included with the drives be alright, or should I make an effort to purchase a Roxio package?

I wouldn't waste money on Roxio or disk space on Nero personally. DVD Shrink does everything Recode does as far as DVDs are concerned, and Imgburn is a far better burner. Both are free and use a lot less space and resources than Nero.

I understand Recode can copy from source drive to target drive even in reauthoring mode. This can save me time as opposed to waiting for the modified copy to be copied to the hard drive first.

Just a little tip for those of you comfortable with Nero Recode and/or Roxio Copy & Convert:

Normally, they won't copy CSS-encrypted DVDs. However, that's where DVD43 would come in handy. DVD43 is a freeware that runs in the background as a CSS decrypter, allowing use of official big-name software such as Real Player, CyberLink, DVD Max, Nero Recode, Roxio Copy & Convert, and DivX Pro.

FYI Nero and Roxio are incompatible and shouldn't be installed at the same time, i.e. one should be uninstalled before installing the other. Once I had a burner make an awful noise and physically damage a disc when both Roxio and Nero were installed together.

Unreliable and not recommended by sane people. If your time is that expensive, hire someone to watch it for you instead.
