    If you convert a DVD to .avi then convert the .avi back to DVD will it lose quality and if so how much. Sorry if this is in the wrong topic but this is the closest I could find.

    yes, you will lose quality. not that much if you convert to a lossless codec like huffyuv and convert back with a good mpeg2 dvd encoder.

    what are you going to do ? you can do basic dvd editing without converting back to avi.

    Here's the way I do it. Just MHO.
    If you just need to edit out commercials (simple cuts), rip the source with DVD Decrypter. Get the mpeg out with Flaskmpeg, demux with tmpgenc, edit with Cuttermaran, then author.
