If you convert a DVD to .avi then convert the .avi back to DVD will it lose quality and if so how much. Sorry if this is in the wrong topic but this is the closest I could find.

Here's the way I do it. Just MHO.
If you just need to edit out commercials (simple cuts), rip the source with DVD Decrypter. Get the mpeg out with Flaskmpeg, demux with tmpgenc, edit with Cuttermaran, then author.Cheers, Jim
