  1. I am trying to set up my Sky (NTL) system so I can record on my hard drive etc. I have AverTV DBT as my capture card but am a little unsure as to what to connect. I have a lead (yellow) that comes out of a video in/out port but this is far too short to reach my TV. I have also got hold of a 5m cable which can run from my TV consisting of a plug that goes in the back of my PC (This will go into video or video in/out I think. This cable also has black and red jacks if this helps.Included with this set of leads is a Scart socket which can switch between Input and Output and there are also connections for Audio L and R , S Video and Video. My PC also has an antenna socket but I don't think this needs anything.

This probably sounds totally confusing but I was told I have got the correct cables but am unsure where everything plugs in. I am just looking for some advice/ diagrams.

  2. The lead I was on about consists of :

1 x Switchable scart adptor with Audio left & right RCA connectors, S Video / Video composite connector.
    1 x S Video Male - Male cable 5m
    1 x 3.5mm Stereo Plug male - 2 x RCA phono pugs male cable 5m

Hopefully this may make a little more sense than my previous waffling post!

Scart adapter into TV or sky box.

Set switch on scart adapter to OUT

2 RCA (As you're in the UK, we call them phono) to red and white sockets on scart adapter.

Other end (3.5mm plug) to audio in on your AverTV card if it has one, if it doesn't, use the LINE IN on your sound card.

At this point you should be able to hear TV sound on your pc. If not, play around with the settings in your Windows Mixer.

S-Video lead into S-Video (mini-DIN) socket in scart adapter (if it has one), other end into S-Video socket in AverTV card (if it has one). If you don't have S-Video at one end or another, you'll need a phono to phono lead to go between the yellow socket on your scart adapter and the yellow phono on the AverTV.

That should now give you video too!
