Well boyz and girlz here's the deal. I record movies and Pay Per Veiws off my Direct TV... for my own personal use of course (WINK WINK)... and I record it all at once. I have tried several programs to split the MPEG in half and place part one of the cut on one cd for VCD then part two on another cd. But there's one problem... when I cut the MPEG in half it seems that every program I use will make part one MPEG 1 with no problem but for some reason it will make part 2 MPEG 2. I've tried to convert it but it still doesn't work. I'd prefer to record in MPEG 1 for VCD but it looks like I will have to record in AVI then convert to MPEG1/VCD. Anyone know of any programs that will help me cut the MPEG 1 in half with out changing the second half to MPEG 2 ? Thanks for the help... Dalton

Dalton,
Have you tried TMPGEnc.? I'm not sure what programs have you used but for me TMPGEnc. has been my only program and didn't have much problem! Using TMPGEnc. to split your mpg doesn't really mean it actually cut it. Instead, its reproducing a new mpg from your original mpg but with your specified start and end timing. So, I guess, this way, you wouldn't have any problems with your part 2. Good Luck, Jordan -
Thanks Jordan, I'll give it a try. I'm downloading TMPGEnc from Morph as we speak. Dalton.

TMPGenc can spilt files, but there can be sync issues. I would suggest using TMPGenc to demux the MPEG, then cut w/ bbMPEG. See the section to the left titled "Edit" for the steps.
Another choice to only have TMPGenc encode part of the source. You can do this with the "source range" option. See Sefy's newbie guide for more info on source range and batch encode, but basically:
1) Click on settings | advance. Then double click source range.
2) Choose the start/stop points you want to encode (use bitrate calculator or for standard VCD template 1min=10MB).
3) Choose file | save project.
4) Repeat for the remain 1/2 of movie (or 1/3 or whatever). Make sure that the output name is different! Then choose file | save project, and give this project a different name
5) Choose file | batch encode. Add both projects and hit run.
