Forgive me if this is not the appropriate forum, but I suspect it may be media related.

I'm burning with 16x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R from RIMA on a Pioneer DVR-110D with current official firmware. I'm able to rip with no errors, shrink with no errors, and burn at 16x w/verify enabled using Nero 6.6, yet when I playback, using a variety of different set-top DVD players, I get "errors" or visible video-glitches periodically.

Similarly, when burning from my own DV converted to MPEG2/authored content, I still get errors periodically upon playback. For all of the above, this is true at 16x, 8x, and even 4x.

Is there some additional step I should be taking to ensure the content that's being written is error free? Is the Nero "verify" stage not sufficient for this purpose?

    Anything else I'm missing/should consider?

Thanks for your time in advance.

need a little more information. are the glitches occuring on all your players? have you checked your source file that you are burning to see if it has the same glitches on the same spots? also, run some disc tests. you can use kprobe, dvdinfo, or nero cdvd speed. do a PIE/PIF test, and CRC test and post results.

based on the info provided I'd say the media is the issue. Alot of older standalones don't handle 16x burned discs well too.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yes, the glitches are occuring on all of my set top players. The source files all appear glitch free. I've watched a couple of discs on various players, noting when the glitches occur, and when I watch the original media on the PC, there are no errors.

I will attempt to run some PIE/PIF/CRC tests and post results. If the disc verifies under Nero, though, does that not mean you get a good burn?

Also, I was understanding that 16x Taiyo Yudens (real ones) from RIMA were the best discs. . .

Possible I got a bad batch somehow? Still don't understand how the verify can succeed in Nero, if the discs are bad.

    Thanks, again, for the replies.
