  1. Please don't laugh at this question too hard. Yes, I know....it's dumb but I am new to video editing, etc.

I am copying and burning DVDs with Ulead, DVD Shrink, etc. What is the differerence between an image and a file? I can save the videos to image files (.iso, .ixb) or I can save them to files (video_ts). What are the differences between images and files in this context? Why would I choose to save the DVD in one or the other?

    Thanks in advance.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe image files include the burning format instructions, so that it produces an exact duplicate of the file. This keeps the burning software from changing things around.

With an image file, you don't have to worry about what settings or format adjustments to make with your burning software, just burn as an image and you will get an exact duplicate of the file. This is especially good for making multiple copies of a file.
