Hi,
Thanks to all the help from this forum, I've converted quite a few VHS videos to DVD successfully using this method:
Ulead to capture to MPEG2
TMPGEnc 1.5 to trim and add menus
DVDShrink to fit DVD
ImgToolBurn to burn DVD on Pioneer DVR-A06 writer
But, I've saved the longer VHS videos (over about 100 minutes) until I could get a double layer burner. Now I have a NEC 3520 burner. So I tried:
Ulead to capture to MPEG2
TMPGEnc 1.6 to trim and add menus
Open DVD writer via TMPGEnc to burn double layer DVD
Problem is, the video is jittery. I've tried twice using Field Order A and Field Order B in Ulead (using two of my expensive Verbatim DL DVDs!). The field order seems to not make a difference. All other capture settings are the same as those used successfully for single-layer discs. Also, I let the DVD writer pick the write speed, which is 4X.
Before I ruin the last of a 3-pack of double-layer DVDs, maybe y'all can help!
Would the write speed induce a jitter to the video?
Would the later version of TMPGEnc (1.6) have anything to do with it? I think the only change was to allow for double-layer media.
Should I change my capture settings? I think they're 8000 CBR now. If so, why did it do so well on the other videos?
I read a thread which mentioned interlacing. Would that cause the jitter?
Source is "Masterminds" VHS, length of about 120 minutes. Jitter is more in action scenes (like a bad capture). I don't notice the jitter while viewing MPEG on PC.
Thanks in advance!!
Alf

what device did you use to capture the VHS? (i.e. list all the hardware involved for connecting the VHS signal to your computer_?
Did you maintain the same field order throughout your entire process?
Is it only "jittery" when playing back on a TV, or is it also "jittery" if you view it on your computer? Only during motion scenes, or on static scenes as well?George -
Hi, George. Thanks for the quick reply.
The capture card is a WinFast PCI (I'll have to get the model this evening). Yep, I only changed the field order after the first DL DVD was jittery. Then, I recaptured, menued, etc.
The jitter is noticable primarily on the action scenes. But, it could be on the static scenes as well. I'll have to watch it again (and get my family to help notice) to be sure.
Also, I'll get a second opinion on the PC playback as well. But, when I watched it on PC, it looked OK to me.
I'll try to gather more details and give a more intelligent reply!
