  1. I have a Pioneer 107D burner. I never had an issue with 4x media but now I am trying to use 8x media and most brands will only write at 4x. I checked all of the obvious settings, has anyone else ever had this problem?

I use DVD decrypter and even then when I load the blank (a 8x blank), the program says "speeds supported: 1x, 4x".

  2. Writes:
    DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW
    DVD-R 8x*, DVD-RW 4x*
    DVD+R 8x, DVD+RW 4x
    CD-R 24x
    CD-RW 24x

Not sure what you are using, this is all I could find. What firmware are you using?

  3. Whatever firmware which it uses during the first install.

I havent had problems in the past with 8x media, it's like all of the sudden these new issues arise.

I used to use 8x DVD-R DVD's by Supermedia. The shiney ones, not the matte silver finish and I can't find them anymore.

I bought 200 DVD-R 8x disc's and they dont work. I bought another 25 of Memorex and those write at 4x, I also just got 25 Dynex and those don't write any faster than 4x.

There's no problem with burning @ 4x. IMHO, I'd stick with 4x for 100% standalone DVD player comptability. The time difference is but a few minutes — just crack open another beer while you wait. ^__^

Sounds like junk media not supported by the firmware.

  6. The media that once WAS supported now doesnt write @ 8x.

So media written @ 4x is more stable? Wow, anyway you can confirm this? I dont mean to dog your advice but I like to read up on stuff.

It's not necessarily true that burning at 4x is more stable. The 107D is quite capable of burning at 8x with very low error levels on the right media, like TYG02 or MXLRG03.
