  1. I tried this sites search function,.. but I must say it is very frustrating. Half the searches wont show up,.. and I get error messages all the time.
Anyway,..I was playing a DVD-RW using Windows Media(same DVD wont play audio in Real Player either),..
and all of a sudden ,.. I have no audio. It plays all my movie files fine with vid/audio....but I only get video when playing DVD's.
I installed Power DVD,.. and the audio came back, so I figured it was a codec problem and maybe the install fixed it.
I then uninstalled it,.. and now I have no audio again.
    Any suggestions??

  4. Seems like a missing codec to me. Just look for a codec pack (f.e. Nimo lite, Matroshka etc.) install and it should work.
DVD Audio and/or DVD's usually contain AC3 sound (2 or more channels). Could be that you also miss a AC3 decoder.

NO! You could as well ask him to eat a can of worms. Never install codec packs. Install the codecs you need and only those. Only time I'd think a codec pack might make more than it breaks is on a virgin system with no codecs installed at all.
Don't use WMP or RealPlayer or such to play DVD/SVCD/VCD - Use PowerDVD or WinDVD or other dedicated player.

I agree with mats. Never install a codec pack. Install a codec only when and if you need it. Sounds like ac3 audio. D/l the AC-3 ACM Decompressor from the tools sectio here (free). This is what I use, no problems here. You stated you installed PowerDvd, I would use that since you allready have it.
