i keep doing something wrong...

i have tried backing up 2 different dvds using DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor (I also tried Nero 6) i have used both DVD+R (sony) and DVD-R (Fuji) media and keep getting the same error message when inserted into either my NEC 3500AG or DVD/CD-RW drive: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel." i have gone through about a half dozen blank dvds now and have still not made a successful backup, none will play on a standalone player and will only play on my PC if I use InterWin DVD to open the file. If anybody has any ideas what is happening here please help im getting frustrated.
