  1. Hi good People,

I am like having the week from Hell here, remember those? Oh wait, I just realized that its going on 9 days now so I am a tad off, how bout 2 weeks from Hell?
Anyway, sorry if I offended anyone with my mouth I cant take this tho!

I am trying to just get a simple playback from an Xvid file, normally I will use ANYTHING but Xvid cuz I hate them. K, the problem is the Xvid can record on just about anything but it wont play correctly, all that skipping and jumping and I dont care what I use it has to be the way the file was produced. Ideally I would like to view these files in a DVD player but when I reformat the MPEG to Iso and then record, no good again.
Can I take the xvid, make it an AVI and start all over? Is this the same problem almost everyone else complains about with Xvid and so I have to encode the AC3 seperately? Lets try this, are there Freeware tools that will let me rip this XVID apart, into the video and audio or whatever I need to do and then put it back together again? I am so lost, I hope I am making sense. I have never in my life had a problem like this with anything.

Oh and so you know these are the xvid, mpeg2 files that I am talking about, 4:3.??
Thanx so much, I cant think anyore I really cant.

Download the newest xvid codec and use the nics 4cc changer and set to divx,if you still have problems playing or encoding xvid files then your system is buggered up with conflicting codec or the xvid files you have are poorly encoded to begin with.

I never have problems with xvid files as long as they are properly encoded.

  5. I am trying something different now, I am so fed up....

VirtualDub can do what? Take apart the File into 2 seperate streams, and then I can re-encode them? Let me ask this, if I used VirtualDub and seperated the 2, what would the safest way be to use these files for burning? Should I encode them back to Avi? Then use them to make new MPEG files which I can then make into a DVD? Would that be the best way?

Oh and Johns0, thanx for the reply and if Im understanding you correctly, you are saying that if I download the pack, in it theres a 4CC changer and all I would have to do is set that to re-encode these to Divx..then what would I do with the Divx?

I am trying to say that the files I can view but I want to record them, ideally ti DVD. Everytime I do no matter what process I use the files wont play without skipping and jumping, I never have a problem with any other file except these darn Xvids..........

Again, can someone just tell me the best way to make an Xvid (if you had problems like I am describing) conversion to DVD, I would take Avi and start all over if I have to.

The 4cc changer will set the header to divx so it doesnt need to be re-encoded to divx if its going to be encoded to mpg.

4cc changer only works for avi files. Now if they want to convert this to an avi, then surely it is not one already?
XviD can be used in avi, ogm, mp4, mkv, dsm, but and nsv containers.

Try playing back the file with mplayer or VLC. See if it plays ok as they don't rely on installed codecs/filters.

I'm finding it hard to make sense also, but from what I could gather, http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might be able to help you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Ok, let me say it this way. Also I am sorry I was so tired after working on these dumb file types for countless hours I was maxed out myself.

I have these files, the files are or were originally divx and xvid files, they were then encoded using I dont know what to MPEG2 format. I cant use them because when I tried to burn them the result was these skipping, jumping files that ran terribly in my DVD player, in another player they werent recognized at all.

Ok, so then I decided I will just encode them back to avi and then split the streams with VirtualDub, then re-encode them into an mpeg file again. Now being the extension on the file (the one I cant use) is .mpg I cant get them into a regular "avi to whatever" encoder like Temgenc or Cucusoft.

I just changed the extension name on the file back to .Avi (by renaming the extension) and then encoded the file in Cucusoft 'cuz its pretty fast as we all know, I then did what I said, I put the file into VirtualDub and split the 2 streams BUT I am thinking I again made a mistake somehow, maybe I should have made a DAT file and then.......no, thats no good either......lol. Ok but NOW AT LEAST you guys have an idea of what I am talking about. So therein lies the problem, how to make these files work at all in any format I dont care.

I did take the 2 streams last night and ran them through Temgenc but isnt that a real crappy audio encoder or am I wrong? Shouldnt I used something like AviSynth for the audio?
And can this work? Has anyone ever done anything like I am talking about, my player BTW is an NEC in the PC and the standalone is a Sanyo which never gave me any problems before so Thanx for the help anyway you guys!

To me that sounds more like a media issue. I don't think the files are to blame

There shouldn't be any need to convert back to AVI and then convert again - just demux the MPEG file in TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools - this will give you separate video and audio streams without having to do two conversions

Renaming the file extension does not change the file type - it may work for DAT or VOB -> MPEG, but that's about it.

I use TMPGEnc religiously with toolame, lame and ssrc plugged in without any hassles whatsoever. The rumour used to be that TMPGEnc's sound processing was dodgy, but AFAIK that's not an issue in later versions.

Sure. People are downlaoding clips in one format and re-encoding them to thers all the time, and it's not just downloading, really. A lot of captures are in one format and then are converted to something else.
    If in doubt, Google it.
