Probably a dumb question, but if I edit [crop] a DV file in VirtualDub and save the result (both audio and video) to a new .avi using Direct Stream Copy, will I lose any quality?
I'm thinking no but figured I'd ask to make sure.
If the answer is yes, is there a way to not lose any info/quality when saving the file?
Thanks in advance.

No. The video is saved in the original format.
Edit: Are you cropping parts of the frame out? If so then I don't think you can use direct stream copy. If you're doing a simple cut and splice edit then you can direct stream and not affect the video."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
Thanks ZippyP.
All I'm doing currently is splitting a file into two parts.
I'll do some more editing later, but for now all I want to do is separate two different filming sessions. -
Even if you did do some editing other than simple copy / cut / paste- good software will render the project not re-encoding the unchanged portions, and as for the stuff that does require re-encoding, I don't think you'll ever notice a loss of quality anyway... that's the beauty of editing in DV with a good codec.
