  1. I was looking to buy a SonyDCR-HC20, so I could transfer the DV to my laptop and then burn to a DVD. Sony gives the impression that you can transfer using the USB2 port, but after reading the forums here It seems that I will need a IEEE-1394 interface for the I-link port on the camera. Is this true? Is there a card or device made for laptops ? Is there any other way to transfer the DV from the camera to the laptop?

DV transfer definitely needs firewire (what Sony calls I-Link). You can get a PCMCIA firewire card. I saw one at Best Buy the other day.
