Following on from my other post .https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=257742&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=I'm having problems in saving edited clips in Premiere Pro.
When I used imported WMV movies I did some editing, saved them as the same file name and it all worked OK. However, because of the audio sync problems with WMV I decided to capture direct into PP with AVI format.
Did a couple of captures manually and then some editing. I then saved the clips by over writing the original file doing what I thought I'd done OK before.
However as soon as I'd saved the clips the movies were shown as offline, and when I tried to import the new edited file back again I got an error saying the files were either damaged or unsupported format. Fortunately I made some copies of the original files so I was able to try this several times but always with the same result.
I then started a new project and using Batch capture I have three AVI clips now waiting editing.
It's obvious that I am doing something wrong when I try to save the edited clips, but have no idea what, so would appreciate anyone talking me through the correct process before I start editing.

why would you save the new clips as the same name as the original clips. It is going to delete the original clips and then of course everything is going to go offline because premiere can not find the original clips. Maybe this is some kind of flaw with premiere but why not just be safe and save as whatever2.avi. If you dont have the hard drive space then you just may be not able to do this.

With most other software, e.g Photoshop-Word-Excel, saving any edits as the original file name doesn't make the original unavailable, you can still carry on working with the file, it just shows as the new file name.
From what you say PP doesn't just use the filename to point to the source but perhaps also the length etc. so once that is altered it takes the clip offline. Perhaps as you say this is a flaw in PP.
It still doesn't account for why I couldn't import the amended file back to PP.
My ultimate aim is to combine the three clips I saved with batch capture into one long clip. I had to do it in three stages to cut out some bad footage but it's all one sequence really.
I'd still appreciate a walk through of just how I should be saving the clips once they have either been cleaned up or combined so I can be sure I'm doing it right. This time I will save to different names.
