Which can you afford?
I believe that Basic offers extremely high quality, and the more expensive versions simply add more in the way of adjustments and refinements to the video. They may provide an edge on quality.
Consult their website, but I'd imagine that you will be going with whatever your wallet dictates. That's why I use TMPGEnc. -
Up to about a month ago I was, and had been for 2+ years, a loyal TMPGEnc Plus user. I bought CCE Basic primarily to use with DVD-Rebuilder. I've since used it as my encoder for converting my son's VHS Disney movies to DVD. While the quality is the same as TMPGEnc Plus (as far as I can tell) the speed is significantly faster. 2-pass VBR (8000-max, 6000-ave, 2000-min) on say an 1:15 movie takes around two hours. That's smokin ... TMPGEnc Plus would take 4+ hours.
Anyway ... CCE Basic costs $58, CCE SP cost almost $2000! God knows what CCE Pro costs. Unless you're going to be doing commerical video work and have a large budget ... then CCE Basic. Even if you have a large budget and could afford CCE SP, then what's the big deal about spending $58 for CCE Basic and see if that meets your needs before spending the two-grand for CCE SP.
Personallyl, $58 is withing my budget for an encoder ... two-grand isn't.
