I just got my DVD burner and am really a newbie. This is all a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Anyway, I have nero with the DVD plug in and I tried to burn a movie that I have on my computer onto a DVD. I have "jay and silent bob strike back" in Avi on my computer that I downloaded a couple years ago. The burn process and transcoding all went fine. I even made a handy dandy menu to go along with it from Nero's menu maker. So here's the problem: When I try to play the DVD, nothing happens.. the menu works, but when I press play, it just pauses and then after a minute, the menu starts again.
Also, I've tried transcoding movies and it says that its less than the capacity of the DVD, but after the 4 hours it takes to transcode, it tell me that there isnt enough space on the DVD disk and to insert a disk with more capacity. I have no idea how that is possible.
anyone with any experience with nero, or any other advice, please help me out. Also, if nero is just not a good program to use, please let me know what I should use instead. Thanks a lot!

Time for me to provide some help back to the forum. I don't know what version of Nero you are using, but I can think of several possibilities. One is your player doesn't like the DVD type you are using. I have one DVD+RW, one DVD-RW, and a stack of DVD+R and DVD-R that I burn after I test with each of the RW types. Another possibility is that Nero isn't burning a compatible disk. There should be an option to write to a folder instead of burn to disk. Use that, then use DVDShrink to make an ISO file from Nero's folder output and use DVDDecrypter to burn the ISO. I have used that on occaisions when a Nero burned DVD acts like it is dirty or scratched.Originally Posted by atopps
If you're using NeroVision Express, there should be a button at the bottom labeled More>>. Click it and then click the Video Options button. Go to the DVD-Video tab. You can make gross changes by using the Standard/low quality settings or you can choose custom and keep changing bitrate until the disk has the free space you want on it.Originally Posted by atopps
Btw, you might want to choose AC-3 audio format if it isn't already chosen. It will be more space efficient. -
thanks.. I dont think its my player though. I've tried it on 4 different players so far and the same thing happens on 2 of them.. and when I do it on my dvd rom on my computer.. i get sound but no video.. hmm..

Use DVDShrink to check,it will tell you right away if the DVD is authored correctly by not giving an error. If no error run it through DVDShrink anyway to make sure it's authored correctly and let it burn the disc using the Nero or DVDDecrypter plugin. As always use a DVDRW to test.
BTW..what brand media are you using? -
im using some no brand discs I bought on Ebay.. pretty cheap stuff.. does it really matter?

thing is.. i've burned a DVD on these disks with nero that does work on all my players. I just ran that one through DVD shrink and it had an error with that one too, however this one works. And then there's ones that just plain dont.

Yes it does, you said it works on some of your players so I'm leaning towards the media.Use Nero CD-DVDSpeed->Disc Quality Test to check for errors.Originally Posted by atopps
BTW...are you using sticky labels on your DVD's?If so don't. -
Well, in that case, can you suggest some different types of media that are good quality but also moderately priced?

atopps, update your profile with your burner model, etc. so we know what you're using.
