Ripped Top Gun DVD but why does the picture of ripped MPG file seems to be darker than the DVD picture?

u used different monitors to watch the rip and the original DVD in?
i have 2 comps/2 monitors...1 is noticeably darker than the other...so that may be your reason.... -
the typical dvdrip undergoes numerous colorspace conversions. each will impact the colorscale to a small degree(usually undetectable). if you go the dvd2avi>cce route try different combinations of rgb scale settings(tmpgenc may have a comparable adjustment, but i forget) or simple use color correction filters near the end of your encoding chain
