  1. hi- i have a packard bell imedia desktop-with a toshiba 4x dvd-rw and cdrom combi drive-i can only burn at 1x,i used ridisc and they burnt at 4x,but only played on 2/3 standalones- any ideas??

    You may have Direct Memory Access(DMA) turned off.

    Check and see if it is turned on.

    The Packard Bell trade name and a lot of other 'good old American' names were bought up by offshore companies.

    Anyway, if one of your discs burn at the rated speed, it just sounds like a media problem. This can also relate to settop player problems. Take a look to the left under writers and players, <<<<< for both your burner and your settop player and see what is recommended for your setup. You could also check on your media, if it is listed.

    It sometimes takes a bit of work to get the right combination.

    They only pulled out of the Pc market in the United States. They still make computers elsewhere. I have worked on a pack of snails computer b4, and I was not impressed. The Cmos battery was soldered to the motherboard so that it could not be replaced.
