  1. Hey fellas... I'm having some difficulties with a .divx file. I'de like to know is there a way to convert it to an AVI (divx) so that I may play it on my Standalone Hardware Divx Player.

Are there any programs that will convert this file type?

    Use Virtualdub.

  3. .divx probably is an AVI file. Try renaming it.

Check it with gspot and make sure you have the codecs. Does Vdub give an error message? You may have a corrupt file.

.divx is an extension of avi, but yeah most avi tools should handle it ok. Does the file actually use any of the extra features like menu's, subtitles, etc.? Because they would be lost.

  7. Ok I was able to use GSpot and check the Codes and so far for Audio & Video it says I have the codecs installed. My issue, however is that even when I try to use VirtualDub to render the .divx to a .avi.. I get an AVI file of the exact same file size but it very pixelated.

This video was actually a Video On Demand file I downloaded from a website. I paid $15 for 30 days access to it. I dont know what that means because the file is actually located on my Harddrive.

    Its extension is .divx

I tried using VirtualDub to re-encode it to XviD but it crashes immediately.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated guys.

I'm actually gonna try Dr. Divx now.

  8. It sounds like your file is protected by DRM -- Digital Rights Management. You probably won't be able to copy it.

But you are providing mixed information. You said "when I try to use VirtualDub to render the .divx to a .avi.. I get an AVI file of the exact same file size but it very pixelated." But you also said "I tried using VirtualDub to re-encode it to XviD but it crashes immediately." Maybe you could explain further...

OK... when I say render the .divx to an .avi, what I mean is in VirtualDub when you open the file... go to Audio & select "Direct Stream Copy"... go to Video and select "Direct Stream Copy".... then go to Save AVI As.... the new file it creates has a .avi extension... but when I try to play it back.... it is horribly pixelated & distorted.

When I say re-encode it to Xvid.... instead of choosing "Direct Stream Copy" under Video... I chose Full Processing Mode and under "Compression" I select the XviD Codec... when I do this to try and re-encode the file, VirtualDub crashes.

I hope this clarifies. & again, Thanks alot.

  10. The contents of your file is encrypted to keep you from copying the video to an unprotected format.

Since Direct Stream Copy makes no attempt to decode data it manages to copy something -- but apparently not very successfully. When you switch to Full Processing Mode VirtualDub tries to decode the audio and video so it can process and re-encode them. Since the data is encrypted, and VirtualDub doesn't know how to decrypt the data, it gets tripped up.

  11. Ok thanks... now my question is... can I put a .Divx file on a DVD-R and play it back in a Divx certified player. I have the Liteon 2001 and it plays back DivX & XviD formats.

Will this file be playable with a .divx file extension?

And if so, will it mysteriously stop working after 30 days?

This is much appreciated. Thanks so much for your replies guys.

  12. If your DivX DVD player is a certified device you can activate it and play all rented/purchased VOD movies on it

    see

OK, Im workin on that as I type... Thanks ALOT for that info.

Question 1: Anyone know of a program that can actually SPLIT a 1000MB .divx file. I only have a CD-Burner at this point.

Question 2: Once my Divx Player is "Activated", will I then have issues playing back normal divx/XviD movies I download from the net? Sometimes my friends encode movies into XviD format and send em to me.... will I still be able to play these files?
