    Hi,

    I have just had my first foray into blu-ray disc ripping. I have AnyDVD HD, Handbrake, and DivX Converter (all up to date) on my Windows 7 64bit computer. Using these I ripped "16 Blocks" into an mpeg-4 file (.m4v file), and then converted this file into DivX file. This worked well and I am pleased with the result.

    However I have attempted to do this again with another blu-ray movie "The Forbidden Kingdom". The file Conversion using Handbrake goes okay. But I am unable to perform the subsequent processing on the mpeg-4 file afterwards. Attempting to open the mpeg-4 file with any media player produces a message "Unsupported Format. This video is an unsupported format and cannot be played without installing additional Directshow Filters." Is the inability for any of my media players to open the file the same reason that the DivX Converter can't open it?

    Using GSpot, I have listed the codes and filters for this file and noticed that the list has flagged up a problem file "ACM Base msacm.ac3filter** Missing file: ac3filter.acm". I have Googled this and downloaded and installed (I think) ac3filter_acm_0_4b, but this has not helped. I still can't play the mpeg-4 file in any media player.

    I am at a loss as to what do do next. I assume that installing the additional Directshow filter will cure my problems. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I'm not even sure what a Directshow filter is.

    Thanks

    Can you post the details from the mp4/m4a file you made? what is the video and audio codecs.

    Or convert the blu-ray directly to an avi xvid with handbrake 0.9.3 or hdconvertxto.
    Or try convert the m4v to avi xvid with another tool like xmedia recode.
    An avi xvid should work as fine as a divx.

    Hi, how can I get the video / audio codec information? Also I already have Handbrake 0.9.4, will this do it? I don't see any option to convert to avi xvid.

    Use MediaInfo, to get information on the video. (GSpot's support for video containers other than AVI and MPEG is rather incomplete/unfinished.)

    The Handbrake developers removed the ability to export to AVI (and XVid support) in the most recent versions. If you want to try using Handbrake to do the conversion, you'll need an earlier version.

    Okay, I downloaded and installed MediaInfo, analysed the "Forbidden Kingdom" file and all I got was this;

    Format : MPEG-4
    Format profile : Base Media / Version 2
    Codec ID : mp42
    File size : 4.86 GiB

    Doesn't seem very much.

    Compare this with my previous successful rip with "16 Blocks";

    Something is obviously not right with the "Forbidden Kingdom" file. I think it's something to do with the audio, "Forbidden Kingdom" is Dolby DTS, "16Blocks" was just Dolby 5.1
