  1. I have a Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD burner (has the internal hard drive). Anyway, I was just copying an old VHS tape over and divided it into about 25 pieces. When I burned these with high speed mode to the DVD they were obviously copied as titles.

I have burned many DVDs but rarely any with more than 10 titles. This one 25 title disc seems to be having issues reading even within the burner... especially towards the end of the disc (I still can't get it to play title 24, even if you select it from the menu list).

I remember using an older Pioneer DVD burner that didn't have the hard drive and running into the same issue on discs that had multiple titles. I guess my question is how many titles is too many? When do they start to affect the navigation/readability of the DVD?

    Thanks for your feedback!

How many milliseconds of Jar Jar are too many?

I assumed that you meant the number = to the number imposed by the DVD standard which is 99.

As for the philosophical aspect of this question, who knows?

As for Jar Jar, I don't think there is a prefix that is equivalent to 10 to the minus 2,000,000.

er... The q was "how many titles is too many?" 99 is not too many.

  7. Sorry everyone... I should have phrased the question differently.

I was aware that 99 titles are allowed. It just seems that anytime I go over 10 the disc navigation/readability suffers. For example, if I burned that whole 2 hour tape as one or two titles instead of 25 I wouldn't be suffering the playback issues I am now. I was curious if anyone experienced the same problems and came up with a rule of thumb for the amount of titles you can safely use before jeopardizing the playback of the final DVD. Thanks!

P.S. - I agree that there is no mathematical formula available to measure the impact of Jar Jar.

it depends on what authoring app you use - not what burner ..

I've never heard of someone having a problem with their DVD Player handling many dozens of Titles. I can only guess that this may be a media compatibility problem with the player. Try a different brand of media to see if you get a different result. Obviously there is a defect somewhere because accessing Titles is just a computer reading a directory.

  10. I am recording and burning with the Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD burner and HDD recorder. I am trying to playback in that same drive as well as my regular Panasonic DVD player... both have the read issue. I do not encounter the problem on other DVDs I've burned with the recorder using the same media. I was assuming it was a title issue.

You may be right, dvd-dude. I haven't experienced this myself. I have a DVD burned on my Mac that has 69 Titles of which 52 are slide shows and 17 are movies and I haven't had any playback issues on my Pioneer DVR.

Yours is the first post I've seen that raises this issue. Then again, few people ever see a DVD with dozens of Titles on it.
The more times I read your explanation the more it seems that something went wrong with the burning of that particular DVD. Maybe it was just a bad piece of media.
