Have you changed the firmware on your 106? Here's another topic here:

I am currently running v1.07 firmware - does anyone have experience with v1.08?
I am always reluctant to update the firmware, just in case it causes additional problems... I might give it a shot if I can find people who have had positive experiences with v1.08 for the Pioneer 106/A06.
Thanks - -
Lots of topics on the net, might have more info:

I used a Pioneer 106D with F/W v1.08 for around 12 months without any problems.

I am still running into this problem... I currently have the 106D on the primary IDE as a slave, and it is running in DMA. On the same channel (primary IDE) is my CDRW running in PIO...
Any ideas? I can't stand burning coasters...
Thanks - -
I would switch the 106D to be the master and let the CDRW be the slave.
