I have a philips dvd recorder. I am trying to copy a mini dv tape from a canon xl1 to this recorder and i need the time/date stamp to appear on the screen. How is this done?? Only through the IlLink firewire output from the camera into the recorder ? Or can I do this with RCAs? Are there special settings on the recorder? I am using Philips DVDR615.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

The output of the time stamp is a "camera thing". There is usually an option in the video camera's menu somewhere to make it visable or not.

  3. I've got this Philips Model and the time stamp thing works.
You have to use the firewire connection, because the time stamp information is part of the digital information. RCA plugs only carry analog signals not digital. (And of course, your tape has to be a digital video tape not analog for this to work too.)
There are no special settings. Just connect your digital camcorder to the DVD recorder with the firewire connection, set to the Camera 2 in-put setting and start recorder. After the DVD Recorder creates the DVD, you turn the time code stamp on and off by using the subtitle button on your DVD player. The time stamp is a subtitle track of the DVD.
