I have a Microsoft PS/2 mouse that came with my computer and the scroll wheel is bad, can anyone recommend a replacement? I see most of the new ones have gone to optical but do of all these (brands and models) work equally well? It seems like maybe some of these jump around?
I really don't need anything fancy but would consider a cordless one if I thought they weren't more trouble than they're worth. Do I understand right that they have batteries and if you forgot to turn it off you would go through batteries like crazy? Thanks!
Mike

i would avoid wireless .. i like a standard smaller MS optical wheel mouse , but many prefer the larger logitec mouses (mice?) ..

I use a Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical. No real complaints. I go through a 4-pack of batteries every 3 months maybe. I also picked up some MS wireless optical mice when Staples had them for $15. They seem to work fine, although I thought they were defective when I first got them because they weren't responding properly. I later realized I had the mouse way too close to the received since I was working in cramped quarters.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
I second Logitech. Good quality. I have both wireless (RF) mouse and wired. Use wired unless you really need the wireless. The infared mouse needs to see the receiver. The wireless gets interference from the microwave and anybody that keys a HF transmitter nearby.
IMO, a wired optical mouse from a good company will do fine. I have cheap Qtronix mouses (mice?) and they work great, no complaints. Don't pay a fortune for a mouse. -
Are the Logitech Mouse's pretty much the same size and shape as a standard Microsoft? For instance the Logitech MX 300 gummy Advenger listed, would it be about the same size and shape as my old standard Microsoft?
I actually had my wife pick me one up earlier today (Circuit City) Microsoft's Basic Optical mouse but when I found out what she bought I didn't even open it after I read mostly bad reviews. Alot of people said all it did was jumped around and that it seemed to be a bad model design. I thought I would take it back and try something else. I've decided to just stick with wired. -
i use the MS X08-71118 wired optical microsoft mouse on about 10 systems , never had a problem with them, REALLY like this model ...
but i see also they seem to have changed this model and added 2 extra buttons -- i like the old one better .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
The MX 300 is a standard sized mouse. I hate the bigger ones.
The only problem with the MX 300 is that you'll probably only find it online. Don't know how hard it would be to find since it's not one of their new models. If I were to buy one in a physical store and they didn't have it, I would go for this one:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2413223&cat=175302&type=19&dept=...63385%3A186266
It has grooves in the sides, which I'm indifferent about and its got a bigger hump where your palm rests, but other than that it's pretty much the same. -
I see they have a MX 310 (new model?) at Circuit City, also the one you posted "The Click", both seem okay. Any preference between the two as I will probably order online?
Also since this will be replacing a Microsoft, do I uninstall my old mouse first and if so how do I do that? -
unplug it
