i notice the drops occur at speed chhanges, also the burn i produce on all media, be it Ritek G05 Taiyo Yuden, it all has different colored rings in the burns, they appear to work perfect... also what is the best Firmware to use with the 3520?? HELP

The Drops are normal. The drive has a Running OPC(Optimum power calibration) function. This function measures the disk write quality while it is writing and makes adjustments in write power. The drops you see are the measurement points on the disk and they generally occur at the speed change. I would use Kprobe or CDspeed to measure the true write quality of the disk. Of course your drive has to support these utilities.
