The neighbor calls up and says her computer won't start, it boots into windows but no mouse and you get a rundlll error right off the bat. I restart it in safe mode (they now think I'm god) and use the system restore. Restart and it works buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut takes 5 minutes to fully load everthing in.... There's a bout 12 icons in the taskbar alone....wether thingy, kazza etc. I hit ctrl-alt-delete and there's about 30 things running. This is the old taskmanager if that is what it's called where it doesn't list everthing like xp. If I remember correctly I would have about 6 or 7 things running in 98.

So started in on the add/remove just to get some of the visible stuff off.....like comet cursor etc. Installed adaware for them, which took about 5 minutes to go through 400 objects left them with some instructions and out the front door.

I would have just reinstalled everthing but they threw that disc away, didn't know they needed it.

My neighbors did the exact same thing. Except they wanted me to salvaje files off it when I couldn't even get it to boot properly into safe mode =\.

I told 'em "alrigh, but i'ma need the hammer to clean up the trash...this could get messy"

I just repaired a lady's computer that was running slower than molasses...

.... son was using Kazza on it - NO ANTIVIRUS OR SPYWARE programs on it....

41 total viruses and/or trojans
1355 spyware items.....

took an entire day of booting, installing antivirus and spyware cleaners, scanning the drive, cleaning off, then defragging a 20gb drive.... she now runs like a purring 3 liter v6 engine and even cleaned up 11 gig of drive space (the tojans or viruses were making her swap file baloon up to 3 gig in size... )

Oh, and told the lady to keep her son off of Kazza!

ran into that at work once - went to a remote site to cover for someone on vacation, the other numbskull that worked there asks me if I know why the computer would be running slow...

same gig - WeatherBug, cursors, a dozen items in the taskbar... I clean all that up. Then I download Ad-Aware and run it, he's got 400 infected items on the system. cleaned it up, system started running well again.

if you ever see these people open their email, you'll see the same thing - they usually have hundreds of spam emails too, they give out their straight addy with no thought at all, sign up for everything... and then complain about how much spam they have to wade through everyday...

well the whole thing of being scurred to use the puter at work thing. yeah plus between hl-2 and goin out to the bars im just to lazy sometimes to have to log into off topic

Oh it's on now. Halo 2 is waaayy better IMO. Actually it's funny because I just saw Half Life 2 is going to be released on the xbox eventually.

It won't be anywhere near as good on the xbox......and also there'll be no mods for it, whereas for the pc, mods will be coming out for years.

It won't be anywhere near as good on the xbox......and also there'll be no mods for it, whereas for the pc, mods will be coming out for years.

You never know. The xbox is easily programmable and pretty powerful and the developers know exactly how they can get the most out of the system whereas when something's made for pc they have to just make it kinda universal because they don't know what kinds of video cards people have.
Doom 3 should look nice on the xbox but I'll just have to wait for that one to come out before I decide to buy it.

Why should this thread be any different than the rest of them in OT? I'd bet someone could start a thread here about pizza and it would somehow end up being about what kind of footwear Atilla the Hun wore in 5.5 posts.

It never matters. I can't begin to tell you how many of my threads got way off track from what they were supposed to be. I didn't even feel in control anymore.
