  1. I bow to the more experienced here in understanding this quirk of my new DVD Recorder. (I was given a Sylvania VCR-DVD Recorder for Christmas.)

I've never used these things before so I've been doing a lot of experimentation. (In the past I captured to computer, edited and authored on my Sony DVD burner.) I've been using 4x Memorex and Dupsonic media. Not the most expensive but it has never given me trouble in the past.

Well when I set up the DVD Recorder to do timed programming of a daily tv show, all works but I noticed some audio/video glitches appearing randomly. The audio is fine, but the video stutters like a freeze frame. It's very quick and only noticable because I'm watching the same episode a few times. The audio stays in sync throughout.

Funny thing is, this hasn't happened on all my recordings, timing or otherwise. Yet it has happened in different recording modes (2Hour, 4Hour, 6Hour) and with all my media (RW, R, Memorex, Dupsonic, etc.).

When I run the same video through VideoReDo I find it needs to be fixed and removes Video/Audio resync frames. I'm used to capturing on the computer and seeing any dropped frames. What is this "resync" frames thing?

Help me understand the possible cause. Bad media, Bad Recorder, overheating?

    Thanks for your help.

It's tough to say, but off hand, I'd say its your media. (It certainly wouldn't hurt to try another brand.) For best results be sure to use name brand media like Fuji, Maxell, & Sony. But my number one choice is Taiyo Yuden.

I have noticed no problems when recording on my Memorex DVD-RW discs in DVD-Video and VR format. I'm trying to determine what is the best match for me (format, brand, disc type).

I did notice two DVD-Rs I used to record multiple episodes the first week turn up CRC errors when reading the last episode. They play fine on both my DVD players, but the computer can't rip those last two eps. But DVD-Rs used to record one 2 hour movie in 2H mode have no problems. Maybe multiple sessions cause problems with this media.

I'll have to find a good source for Taiyo Yuden. Or get used to using my DVD-RW for recording then ripping or copying.

Thanks again for the info. I was worried my recorder was the problem. So far, it's been great otherwise.

A good source for Taiyo Yuden is FUJIFILM 8x -R made in Japan. They often go on sale for 40 cents a disc in 50 or 100 packs.

I get them at Best Buy or Fry's which ever has them on sale that week.

Only the made in Japan are Taiyo Yuden. The made in Taiwan Fuji 8x -R are PRODISCF01 which are ok, but not as good especially since they are sold as the same product with the same price and UPC.
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.

  5. I've experienced similar problems and found a solution somewhere on this board. I can't find the thread right now but it was recommended to de-multiplex and re-multiplex the files on the PC. Since I do all of my authoring on the PC, this wasn't a problem and everything has been fine since.

Thanks, but my recorder only likes 4x media. It gives disc errors if you try putting anything faster in there. I mistakenly got some 4x Ritek DVD-RW (it only likes 2.4x DVD-RW) in a spindle. I get nothing but disc errors with those. Bummer because I have more than enough data media than I need. Live and learn.

I would echo using Taiyo Yuden media. I have had excellent results with it in my Plextor PC burner and also my Panasonic DVD-R E85H. A good source for many types of media including the Taiyo Yuden is www.rima.com. They are fast and reliable.
