  1. I am halfway there to burning my first DVD to hopefully play on a standalone DVD. I have encoded all my movies to VCD and have all my photos ready though I have done no encoding with the photos because I don't even know if you have to or how to with photos.

I want to run the movies and afterward continue with the slide show all on the same DVD. Is this possible and if so, can I create the slide show with Nero Express or do I need some other software?

Also, my photos are of a higher quality than my videos so if I need to encode the photos can I encode them at a higher quality?

  2. damn...that's some crazy mix you've got there.
i think your best bet would be a player capable of accessing unauthored files on an ISO disc.

make MPEG stills and an access control (possibly w/ a menu) could be a pain, although it's possible.

btw, to make MPEG stills, you'd have to box them into a 720x480 frame.

Yes, you can put slide shows after the video. I don't know if Nero can do this, but there are a lot of other programs that can. I use Ulead. The quality of the photos will be no better than 720x480 and depend on how you compress.

You can do it with Nerovision Express. Nero Express is just the simple burner app in the Nero Suite.

As winffreid said.... See if you can drop them on the timeline like you do a video. Right click them and see if there is options to setthe enght of time they display, ther might even be a default time you can set. Add your transitions. In other words treat them as if they were video clips, you just have to set the length of time they display.

If nero doesn't do that there are plenty of others that do.

  6. OK, thanks.

I will try it tonight or tomorrow morning. I guess I won't even need to use the TMPGEnc authoring program because you can write the chapters in with Nero Express 2. So maybe it won't be so bad.

  7. yeah i forgot aobut those timeline video editors. just about any decent one can do it. i wouldn't be surprised if even the one that comes w/ Win XP can do it.

I use two different programs for this. for professional results I use Adobe premiere, which involves alot of work, the other one for fast service I use Memories on TV program it has good results and is fast and EZ. I put videos and slides on DVD as a proffesion and this is a very common request.
