I have a really odd issue here. I have a pci ULTRA ATA card (promise) installed in my Dell PC. I have two 160GB WD Drives attached to it. If I have a USB device plugged into the front USB ports on my PC and I attempt to boot the machine, the computer will start up (after some time) but the drives attached to the ULTRA ATA card will not be available. If I remove the USB device (usually a gamepad) and reboot, the drives come back. Everytime I boot without the USB gamepad attached, the drives are available... with it attached... no drives.

    Any ideas?

    Damn.... that's a good one

Have you tried to remove the USB Hub (device drivers) and restarting machine? (reloading drivers)

Have you checked for updated drivers from Mfg of ATA card?

Do a search on Microsquashes knowledge base... it has helped me in the past.

I could give that a try (removing the USB from device manager).

    Thanks for the suggestions.

  5. Put the card in a different slot.

yeah as nic said.. its a IRQ conflict.. move around or go into device manager and manually change the irq to one other than usb.. it will likely have to share with something but dont let the PCI card share with nic or sound or usb if possible.. moving it around usually fixes the issue.. GL

I've tried moving it to a different slot. That didn't fix it. I'll try changing the IRQ settings for the PCI card.

    Thanks.

Conflicting IRQs was the problem. I found that one of my USB ports was using IRQ 18 at the same as my ULTRA ATA card. I removed the offending USB port from device manager. No more freeze ups! Now, I have to restart and have it reinstall. I hope it doesn't try to use the same IRQ again. Thanks for the help!!!
